The Machine Whirs Back to Life

by Patrick Ruffini :: January 3rd, 2007 12:00 am

It’s time I dusted off the cobwebs and turned the lights back on.

PatrickRuffini.com is once again opening up its doors. I know I say that quite a lot, as this is only the third iteration of the site to come back after various sabbaticals. But take a quick tour, and you’ll see a site rebuilt and reengineered for the long haul. These are interesting times. And the blogosphere is where the fight will be waged, and won.

So, what’s new?

This site is now home to three new blogs. This one, On the Side (in the box off to the right), and Overclocked, a blog about all the latest happenings in technology. I’ve never been one to clutter my blog with miscellany and breaking news. Now I don’t have to. The homepage will carry in-depth political analysis, spotlighted front-and-center; On the Side will carry the stuff that’s catching my interest right now with minimal commentary; Overclocked is for you if your definition of the Big Three is Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo. You can subscribe to my main feed right here or submit your e-mail address at the very top of this page to get the daily e-mail.

The 2008 Presidential Wire has been completely rebuilt. It was only the past couple of months that I rediscovered how smartly the community is driving it. Almost always, the most clicked-on articles are the most interesting ones. I got to thinking about how to better spotlight the hot articles, how to make sure you know what’s going on the instant you hit the page. I’ve settled upon a two-column design with popular stories on the left and latest stories on the right, with the headlines growing bigger as the stories grow more popular. Your feedback on this one is greatly appreciated, and I’ll be making some tweaks in response to how you all are actually using it.

And that’s just the beginning.

Also: don’t be shocked if there’s a dash or two of ‘08 commentary on the horizon.

  5. Paul A'Barge says:

    Sweet! Welcome back.

Join the rest of us as we stand on the sidelines, watching the stupid party pony up to the 2008 bar to set a record at how effective they can be at losing.

From tolerated corruption, to Republican Senators who travel to places like Syria to confab with the enemy, to Republican Senators who set records at stinginess in donating to other Republicans, to the great back-down on immigration reform, and finally to an absolute refusal on the part of Republican leadership to reform on any level, we get to watch the DHIMMIcRATs hand us our asses again.

    Sigh.

  6. Maury says:

Glad to see Pat is back and enthused to think of what lies ahead.
One complaint: Why was there a 5 way ‘08 poll without Newt Gingrich listed? The most innovative and realistic conservative thinker of current times is also the most competent to serve. And by the way is #3 in the early primary/caucus states - ahead of Huckabee, McCain and Romney. And if you tghink he’s not running, you probably missed the opportunity to be in on the Google IPO.

    # January 3rd, 2007 at 2:27 pm

  7. Maury says:

CORRECTION: My last post should have said ahead of Huckabee, Brownback and Romney. Admitted that McCain is leading in several of those States - for now.

  9. Debbie Watson says:

Dear Patrick. Thanks for providing a place for all voices to be heard and express their support for candidates in 2008.

As you might know, there are nationwide efforts to get Condi Rice to run, and these groups have been raising money for radio and tv ads. Others are new, like Thinkcondi.net, who will be more organized in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina. The wide picture is an effort by real people who do not have to be paid $5000 or $10,000 a month to act like a loyal supporter. Most of the people promoting Condi are reaching into their own pockets to take care of costs to set up websites, run the ads (the FEC paperwork would provide evidence of these ads running in Iowa, Tennessee, New Hampshire, and Texas.
The national polls also show support for Condi across the nation and that is newsworthy.
So please keep up the effort to inform your readers about what is going on for 2008 and thanks for keeping me informed about Condi Rice as a contender.

  10. Banjo says:

Glad to see you back in the trenches after whatever you were doing in HQ company. Expect to remain until the Republican party has purged itself of the career politicians who were the engine of defeat in the last election and are in the driver’s seat for the next. Jeb Bush is correct to see no political future in his future. His brother and the rest of the open-borders crowd have cinched that.

welcome back. We need all the strength we can muster at this time, buddy. Let’s try to get a dark horse elected in 2008. How’s Mark Sanford? Sounds good to me. Anyone but McCain or any mediocre, I mean centrist, candidate. Happy new 2007.

I am embarassed to post my Web/Blog URL as it needs major new attention but there it is!

    I would be interested in a list of draft-Condi Web/Blog URL’s.
I gave up hope and let the several domains I had for her lapse.

I am very unhappy with everyone on the short list and was most
recently hoping that the Gov. of SC would run.

The GOP is not the only place there is confusion, the Dems have their own internal problems for their Primary, not to mention
the esteem they will loose as their criminal-elite attack
America from inside our Congress. :-(
