Oscar Jockeying Getting Serious
by Patrick Ruffini :: January 6th, 2007 9:46 pmPresidential politics isn’t the only thing that’s starting earlier and earlier every cycle. It seems like the jockeying for the Oscars is too. This year, I’ve noticed a flurry of ads for movies linking not to the movie site but to a “For Your Consideration” site targeting Oscar voters. This one from Paramount is a good example. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen these in previous years, and it’s either a testament to the increasing sophistication of selling movies or a staggering waste of money.
In and of itself, I didn’t consider this to be very remarkable until I saw a “Consider Borat” button reading this Chevy Chase op-ed in the NYT. That’s right… Borat… quite possibly the worst piece of drivel ever committed to 35MM. Good grief.
