Hillary’s In

by Patrick Ruffini :: January 20th, 2007 11:39 am

Hillary Clinton announced on her Web site this morning, using the same video announcement gambit Obama used on Tuesday.

Excuse me if I call this just a little desperate. Who announces on a Saturday? And though the format closely mimicks Obama’s announcement, which generated just phenomenal traffic, she comes off as the same old Hillary — nowhere close to real or authentic. Plus, the most powerful part of Obama’s site isn’t the announcement, but the slick bio video.

As I speculated when I first reviewed Hillary’s re-elect website, she has build a robust set of action tools that could easily be repurposed for a Presidential race. The old site was too soft, this one borrows too much of the tiresome Web 2.0 design style (complete with “the shiny”).

The most interesting piece of content on the site is a polling memo from Mark Penn on how Hillary can win.

Other features include a series of live video chats (borrowing a page from Arnold Schwarzenegger) and a “write our first guest blog” contest, which is very 2004 in an age of community and celebrity blogs.

I have to give them credit for announcing online. It has the same press value as a traditional announcement and it should drive e-mail signups and donations. The New York Times piece even focuses extensively on the Web site because, well, that’s all there is right now.

UPDATE: Hotline picks up on something very significant. Hillary has decided to turn down general election matching funds.

    Hillary Is Running For President?…

Hillary is running for president? I’m shocked! Who knew? I never would have guessed it. Do you think that’s why she ran for the Senate? It must be the reason she stayed married to Bill. I’ve always wondered about that.

  6. The American Mind / Hillary’s “In to Win!” says:

[…] Hillary’s use of the internet has been panned as “me too,” but I see it as an evolving part of her campaign. She doesn’t need to be the YouTube or Digg candidate because she’s the front runner. She can leave gimmicks to her challengers chasing her. Hillary can use new technology in ways that feel more mainstream and less techy. […]

She’s announcing today, which is January 20, 2007…exactly 2 years until Inauguration Day. Symbolism…symbolism…is everything these days.

Turning down “election matching funds” allows Hillary to raise serious cash and leave the stiffs in the dem party election chase dependent for matching federal funds. Anyone curouis about the outdoor background? Does green grass and leaves on the trees tip us of that this video was done last summer and not recently? More b.s. from team Hillary. It’s starting already.

  4. Denise Buttons says:

I believe only $2000 is allowed now during the primary season for funding, whether you want matching funds or not. That is how President Bush managed to raise $200 million (the limit was $1000 per US citizen in 1999 until 2003).

Yes, Hillary has $14 million leftover from her Senate account.
So did Evan Bayh, but he flamed out in a few weeks by not getting the buzz or the polls over 5%.

As an educated middle-class single woman, this is one Republican woman who will not be manipulated by Hillary.
Most people already have their minds made up for support of her or not, but the MUSHY MIDDLE is 5% and she needs to soften them up.

The media will take off their gloves soon and investigate where her money is coming from, who the FAT CATS are, and whether her hubby will be an asset for Hillary or suck away the spotlight. Any time he is in the room, the media goes to him and not her, so that is a SHADOW problem.

It is going to be a long long years of holding Hillary under a microscope while seeking the UN-HILLARY.

Hummm thinking back in time from what I have been taught. This worlds troubles started out with a woman(EVE) If Hillary was to be elected wonder if this would mean that the world would also be ending due to a woman lol
