We Win, They Lose

by Patrick Ruffini :: May 2nd, 2007 3:46 pm

Recently, I’ve written about the need to use new online strategies to mobilize against the Democrat-controlled Congress. Today, I’ve launched WeWinTheyLose.com, a place where conservatives can sign up to keep the pressure on elected officials to stand by our troops and stand for victory in Iraq. This effort is named for Ronald Reagan’s simple recipe for defeating Soviet tyranny: “We win, they lose.”

The “We Win, They Lose” coalition includes Glenn Reynolds, leading bloggers at Red State, Rob Bluey, Lorie Byrd, John Hawkins, and other blog luminaries. The site has been up less than an hour, and support is coming in strong.

Our first action is a petition against Congress’s reckless actions on the Iraq funding bill. But this isn’t just any petition. Bloggers will receive credit for the signatures they refer, and can boost this effort by embedding the petition directly on their blog. You can sign right here:

    The Thirty Percenters Strike…

Giuliani consultant Patrick Ruffini has launched a website to harvest e-mails for — well, I’m not sure what exactly. I guess it’s to express their fringe sentiment that America ought to stay the course with the Bush strategy that kills…

[…] We must fight back. Patrick Ruffini has begun a counterattack. He’s revived a Reaganism “We Win, They Lose”. Notice that they don’t try to define what “We win they lose” really means. Defeating al Qaeda in Iraq? Sure. But what else? Ending Shiite/Sunni fighting? Most of the violence in Iraq is of that kind, and it will be a problem whether we’re there or not. It’s not directed at us, but on the other hand it’s the main reason the government is so unstable, so does “we win they lose” mean stopping that sectarian violence? Does it mean just stopping the sectarian violence long enough for us to get out, or does it mean establishing a functioning democracy so that the violence doesn’t re-escalate as soon as we’re gone? Does it mean neutralizing the potentially de-stabilizing effects of Iran’s interests in the region? Syria? Turkey? The petition mentions the potential for Iraq to become “an unchecked den of terrorism at the heart of the Middle East” but al Qaeda has strengthened its base of operations in Pakistan with the tacit permission of the Pakistani government, so does “we win they lose” mean ending their hold on certain regions of Pakistan? With our military stretched thin as it is, do the petition signers believe in “win we they lose” strongly enough to support a draft, so that we can “win” not just in Iraq but in the larger, global war on terror?

It’s a slogan, symbolism without substance. It’s all they’ve got left.

Hey great idea! I want ‘props’ (see: http://elementsofpower.blogspot.com/2007/05/we-win-they-lose.html) (just kidding).

~sigh~ I knew when I read about this effort over at HH that you would suffer the many ‘bobs’ of this world.

    Good Luck and Check Six!

    I get it.

“We Win, They Lose” has nothing to do with Iraq or the troops. “Win” is up for debate, “They” is up for debate.

It’s really about re-taking Political Power, right? Just like the original decision by Rove to support Cheney’s NeoCons in going to war in Iraq had to do with taking control of the Congress?

We all know where that got us.

When are YOU going to testify before Congress, Ruffini?

A sure sign you’re doing the right thing: the trolls come out spewing non-sequiturs. ;-)

BTW, the code doesn’t work on MySpace–I haven’t checked LJ or Blogger yet, but I will (I’m guessing Blogger is fine, or someone would have already mentioned it).

  5. Beth says:

Nope, not working for Blogger or LJ either.
    Blogger gives the message:
Your HTML cannot be accepted: Tag is not allowed:

I’m guessing that’s the same issue with MySpace and LJ.

Patrick, are y’all going to update that sentence where it says “urge my representatives to vote to sustain the veto,” since it’s a done deal? Maybe update it to say “urge my representatives to stand firm against timetables?”

Thanks - I’m glad to see this website and will pass it on to friends. I wish you would send a petition to the President asking him to be more vocal and refute these ridiculous claims and attacks from the left. Republicans want to stand behind him but we want to sense that he is still in the fight. He doesn’t have to fall to the low level of discourse of the “loyal”(???) opposition - but he is the leader of the Party And he can still generate support and keep the Republicans/conservatives faithful.

If there is no response… a lie told long enough is accepted as truth. There is too much at stake to let the liars/Left push their dishonest agenda.
