2008 Wire: The Videowall
by Patrick Ruffini :: June 5th, 2007 8:54 amThis has seriously got to be the coolest thing I’ve built. Introducing the 2008 Presidential Wire Videowall:
Launched just in time for tonight’s Republican debate, the videowall aggregates all the latest YouTube videos about the ‘08 candidates in a full screen total immersion experience. I’ve found it very useful in tracking down debate clips, anonymous oppo hits, and other cool stuff I’ve missed. Voter generated content is mixed in with media clips and official candidate videos to provide a 360 degree view of the campaign.
I built it by running Google Video feeds through Yahoo Pipes and plugging it into the Wire’s engine. This also means that video stories are now fully integrated into a rebuilt 2008 Wire, denoted by a little YouTube icon.
No warranty is made on the quality of the content — it’s 100% computer generated. This being YouTube, it’s got more than its share of basement videography. That said, I’m very happy with the quality of the results so far. It’s already providing great blogging fodder.
For total chaos (read: make sure to shut down all your other tabs, and save your work) try clicking all 24 play buttons.
Recommended Viewing Experience: IE7 full-screen (F11)

Patrick Ruffini built a “2008 Presidential Wire Videowall” using Yahoo! Pipes and Google Video. Very cool.
