Patrick - there’s a problem with the Blogger code for the Save the Debate widget. It’s generating a letter to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, and not the letter to the GOP candidates. I’d like to use it, but it needs to be fixed first.
Registered voters regardless of party should demand Lincoln Douglas style discussions lasting longer than 90 minutes.
You Tube debates only requires some idiot like Matthews, Cooper of Russert cherry picking questions.
The audience should consist of only registered voters who have voted in three consecutive local/state and federal elections.
It look’s like Huckabee is on board … He’s posted a video on YouTube calling for his fellow candidates to join him.

Who cares about “debates”…
My opinion is that they should not do events like the You Tube debate OR the town hall “debate” which is just like a joint press conference with 8 or 10 people making short sound bite responses to stupid questions. They should have real debates betwe…
[…] Some Republicans, including Patrick Ruffini (a blogger and former e-campaign director for Giuliani and the Republican National Committee are upset by this and are comparing the Republicans’ unwillingness to participate in the You Tube debate to the Democrats’ silly decision to participate in a debate hosted by Fox News. Ruffini has even started an online effort seeking to put pressure on the candidates to participate in the You Tube debate, out of fear that the Republicans’ refusal will make them appear unconnected to the important new world of internet campaigning. […] Ultimately it’s probably inevitable that all the candidates will participate. The candidates’ change of heart is coming about in part because of the work of Patrick Ruffini and his “Save the Debate” effort. Ruffini, one of the GOP’s most tech-savvy strategists, has argued that Republicans are being “outperformed” online and are in danger of losing the youth vote by a huge margin. As blinkered as the Republicans have been in office, they’re pretty smart politicians, and I don’t think they’ll continue to leave their online/youth flank completely unprotected. And as Soren Dayton notes, the whole thing could work out somewhat in the GOP’s favor, given that by the time the debate happens in November or December, a lot more people will be paying attention.
