Attacked by Ron Paul
by Patrick Ruffini :: February 18th, 2008 5:10 pmWhoa. Ron Paul just attacked me in an email:
A Republican operative allied with the worst forces in DC recently said: “Give what you can [to Ron Paul’s opponent]. Ron Paul is running scared — using his Presidential campaign’s donors’ money to subsidize a desperate last-minute attempt to save his Congressional seat.”
He calls me a liar, but then proceeds to undermine his argument by using a key Presidential campaign asset (his e-mail list) to bail out his faltering Congressional campaign. I am signed up to receive Paul’s Presidential campaign emails, but not his Congressional campaign emails, so this Paul-for-Congress solicitation comes as the result of a list swap or list rental.
Ron Paul can’t use money for his Presidential race to fund his 2008 Congressional campaign, but assuming he survives in 2008, he could use his leftover Presidential funds to position himself as Congressman-for-Life from the TX-14. Federal officeholders can freely move money around between their Presidential and Congressional accounts between election cycles, as both Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have done in eight figure amounts. Does Paul intend to draw down his Presidential account before the Convention if he’s not using his campaign loot to underwrite his future job security?
Also, notice how he can’t bring himself to say my name, or Chris Peden’s?
February 18, 2008
The DC neocons think their old dream is about to come true. They think they can defeat me in the Republican congressional primary in Texas on March 4th. And you know what? They may be right.
My opponent, who describes himself as a traditional conservative, is a dedicated servitor of all the special interests who have given us the disaster of recent years, from unconstitutional wars to a looming recession, from huge deficits to massive new welfare programs.
A Republican operative allied with the worst forces in DC recently said: “Give what you can [to Ron Paul’s opponent]. Ron Paul is running scared — using his Presidential campaign’s donors’ money to subsidize a desperate last-minute attempt to save his Congressional seat.”
That is a lie, of course. It is illegal to use presidential campaign donations in my congressional race. The congressional campaign has to stand on its own. But so far, we have raised only about a third of what a well-funded effort would need.
In my 10 terms in Congress, I have not only been able to serve my constituents, and help them, for example, negotiate federal red-tape. I have also been able to defend our principles of less spending, lower taxes, no inflation, and strict adherence to the Constitution. Some people in DC laugh at the idea that I should obey my oath of office, and ask first of any proposed legislation, is it constitutional? But I know that you share my support for the vision of the framers.
My friend Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest (R-Maryland) was just defeated in his primary election by a neocon fraud similar to the one I face. My friend Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) is under heavy pressure as well. People like our hand-picked opponents will do anything to gain and keep power. They represent everything that is wrong with DC.
If I am defeated in the upcoming congressional primary, our ideas will be held to have been defeated as well. It will be proclaimed from the rooftops in DC that such “ridiculous and outmoded notions” as the free market, sound money, personal liberty, limited government, and a pro-American foreign policy are through.
I am determined not to let this happen. All that you and I believe in is far too important to the future of our country, and to everyone and everything we love, to let the neocons dance on its grave.
Please, help me stop the lies, the distortions, the pressure groups, the special interests that benefit from DC rip-offs. There is still time to run radio and tv ads, to set up phone banks, to get out the vote. But unless you help, my reelection to Congress may be in jeopardy. Please help me return to Congress to fight for the people of my district, and for the ideas that can save our country from the path to trouble we are now on.
I hesitated to ask you, since you have already done so much. But my wife Carol said, “When you need help, you ask your best friends.” So I do ask you, to hold out your hand in support.
Please give today http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com, as generously and as quickly as you can.
Sincerely,
Ron

Josh, I hope so. My popcorn is ready. Although in recent weeks I haven’t noticed as much “passion” from them. Maybe it’s because there haven’t been any GOP debates for them to stuff Fox News text polls afterwards.
Even the “Hotties for Ron Paul” are having a fire sale for their calendar. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/02/hotties-for-ron.html
@gRegor
Perfectly legal but kind of undermines the idea that the Congressional campaign is completely self-sufficient from the Presidential effort
Also, I’m taking bets on how many comments on this post before midnight.
100? 200?
what ARE “the worst forces in Washington”?
Why do I get the sense this guy is more angry about people who backed Giuliani or Romney than Barack Obama supporters?
#5,
I’m more curious whether if anyone’s going to read this guy’s shitty blog besides all the libertarians coming to laugh at him and then going to donate (again).
I feel as if Ron Paul is getting shafted by the liberals and the neo-conservatives. Without the minimal government person having a voice they can continue to spend on their individual programs unendlessly while acting as if they are completely different! I will be voting for Ron Paul in North Carolina but I am really voting against the liberals AND the neo-conservatives(liberals). To me the founders tried to protect our individual rights which allowed prosperity and growth. Today I see just the opposite and things aren’t getting better. I am in no way a conspiracy theorist and never have been. I wouldn’t disclaim the notion that governments can be evil but Islamist interventionism is now blowing back on them, why would it not happen for us? I really believe Ron Paul is a good guy and that a vote for him would better our civilization….no matter if he wins or not. Everyday more and more middle aged and younger people are educating themselves through the information age and this is very beneficial! His message is very hard to win while the babyboomers make up half the vote! The citizens around me believe America will always be better than the other countries….but why? Why do we have it so good? I believe we have it better because we used to be based on the principles that Dr. Paul is speaking. How long will we last after our constitution is completely ignored? I only want the best for my family, friends, and neighbors!
It’s amazing that anyone with even a sampling of common sense could not understand the positive results of a Ron Paul Presidency… If you are against Ron Paul you are for total Government control over your life…take you pick…
You can attack the man but the topics he brings up are still valid. He won the debates and he made Guiliani look like he was mentally disabled.
Who else actually wants to get us out of Iraq other than him and Gravel ?
Wow, Patrick! The “worst” forces in Washington? And a neocon to boot? Wooooo… sounds to me like Ron Paul is playing a game of opposites. I’ll consider giving to Peden just BECAUSE of this little exercise. I wish that Fed campaign dollars were 24/7 instant disclosures - and that if the campaign is over, the money went back to donors. This slushy, back & forth that keeps people like Ron Paul in business drive me nuts.
Hey,
Ron Paul was one of 8 members of congress to vote AGAINST the do not call list.
One of the most successful pieces of bi-partisan legislation in history and he voted against it.
Amazing.

“Who else actually wants to get us out of Iraq other than him and Gravel”
hmmm.. maybe the Al-Queda senior management or the Mullahs in Teheran?
I would say the worst forces in Washington DC, are the neocons who made us a target of the terrorists. They brought terrorism to our shores, and then attacked our civil rights (in order to protect us from terrorism, we’re told). Their friends in the Council on Foreign Relations are making billions of dollars on these undeclared wars. Let’s continue to expose these criminsals.
“Also, notice how he can’t bring himself to say my name, or Chris Peden’s?”
Yes, Dr. Paul was very polite not to directly attack you… I agree with you, it’s very admirable that he didn’t sink to such a low level… unlike another couple of people.
You see sir, the problem I have with you and Mr. Peden is that you deliberately distort what Dr. Paul says as well as his actions. This is how I know Dr. Paul is telling the truth about you and Mr. Peden. If Mr. Peden was such an honest and good man like both you and he claim, then there would be no need to attack Congressman Paul…. Obviously, you both perfectly match the descriptions that have been given to you….
You can lie and manipulate all you want, who knows, maybe you’ll even win. But if I were you, I don’t think I’d be able to live with myself. May God have mercy on your souls (you’re going to need it come Judgment Day).
Reading some of these comments let’s me know that the fluoride in the water really is bad for you.
Ron Paul is the only man running right now in the 14th district that is honest. You mean to tell me that pee-man is going to do what in Congress for the 14th district?
Some of you may just want to start taking meds and go out and talk to the little green men in your back yard and allow Dr. Paul to continue to try to save this Country from those who mean to crash our dollar and enslave the American people.
You feel so passionate about Iraq then load up and go over there yourself but don’t ask me as a retired US Army veteran to go back. If some of your comments were not so insane it would be sad.
All I can say is if you think the pee-man is for you then I know you should love what the Devil has to offer you in hell.
I wonder how many comments you left yourself under different fake names to make yourself look like you proved some point. It truly is amazing how many idiots have jobs that give them public platforms.
If elected will Chris Peden work to restore sound money and end the Federal Reserve? Does Chris Peden feel like the 16th Ammendment should be repealed? I know that Mr. Peden says he supports the war on terror, does that include the war in Iraq?
I love the CFR. They rock. So do a lot of other “think tanks”? - If Ron Paul & his cronies really believed in freedom - they should welcome the debate with others. Instead, they wig out over any opposition. If Ron Paul honestly represented the views of a majority of Republicans in his district, there wouldn’t be a challenger.
Go Peden!
I hope Ron Paul is relieved of his Congressional seat. Then he can devote his full focus and energy to the presidency.
Burn the boats Ron. It’s OK. Sooner or later we will take this country back. In the end the people - if they so desire - can overpower the criminal politicians.
Lead Ron Lead!
He didn’t attack you. What a let down. You suck, dude.
America’s dead, and Ron Paul’s campaign just proved that Americans don’t want to do anything to preserve our ways. Hand over your asses to China and the United Arab Emirates.
What a bunch of lies and disinformation. I don’t like how people with little patience or enough thought process like to refer to RP supporters as aggressive name callers or tech-savvy. What a bunch of old geezer dinosaurs. Tech savvy just because we trust an open and unregulated source of information (internet) over regulated and corporate owned source of information (tv). Just give it up. Supporting someone ignorant to the true causes of terrorism shows how short-sighted you are. This isn’t even a real article, it’s more like a waste of time.
How Ron Paul Won The Election
Once upon a time in America there was a man named Ron Paul. He was a learned man, a medical doctor, who was well versed in economics, law and foreign policy. He had a high regard for the constitution. In his view, it was not some sentimental, historical document composed by eighteen century dandies in powdered wigs. It was a contract between the people and the government, written by men who understood the dangers of tyranny. It was in his view a timeless document designed to protect the people from the excesses of government in any age.
He could see that the government was continually overstepping its constitutional bounds and, as a consequence, the people were losing their liberties at every turn.
Ron Paul decided to run for office as a Republican. He knew that he might stand alone, like a voice in the wilderness, calling for a return to limited, constitutional government. Yet, he recognized that the time was critical and that if no one took up the challenge, we might all lose the liberties and rights we take for granted.
The Republican party did not want him in their midst. He was a threat to the status quo. They preferred a more “realistic” and “pragmatic” candidate who “understood” that times had changed and that we should “adapt” our thinking to the “modern” era. In their view, a real politician should be able to negotiate and compromise and be sophisticated enough to work with big business and lobby groups.
Despite Republican opposition, his campaign grew in popularity. Even those who did not agree with everything he said recognized that this was a man who spoke plainly and directly, and in short, they trusted him.
The party leaders saw the threat and moved into action. The coffers were opened, and no expense was spared in supporting his Republican opponents. The unfairness and bias was not missed by Ron Paul’s supporters who were growing daily. In fact, these attacks only strengthened their resolve to work harder for the one candidate who didn’t check the political climate before answering a question.
To the shock and consternation of the Republican bosses, Ron Paul defeated his opponents and seized the Republican nomination. Then, He prepared himself for the next round when he would go directly against the candidate in the Democratic Party. There should have been funds available from the Republican Party to support Paul’s campaign, but all the money had been spent trying to defeat him! And so it was up to his followers to raise additional money to continue the campaign. The message of liberty and limited government took Ron Paul to victory. Despite the odds, he defeated all opponents, both Republican and Democratic.
Do you think this story cannot come true? Is it so far fetched that we shouldn’t bother to strive for it?
IT ALREADY HAS HAPPENED!
This is the story of how Ron Paul was first elected to Congress. Since then, He has been in the congress for twenty years and his stance has never changed.
He can do this AGAIN, and the time has never been more critical. Just as before, he needs the support of the people. If you share this vision, then you must register as a Republican and vote in the primaries for your state. Many traditional Republicans will vote in the election, BUT NOT IN THE PRIMARIES. This is our opportunity to take the primaries by storm. If 100% of Ron Paul supporters vote in the primaries, we can, once again, ambush the Republican establishment and propel Ron Paul to the nomination. We must do this; the future of our country is at stake.
PS If you agree with this message, pass it on to everyone on your list
Ron Paul is well loved. Get used to it.
You are losing your integrity Chris.
In my eyes, you already have.
You know EXACTLY what Ron is referring to.
Get out of the way.
We need Ron Paul to keep America safe.
We need our troops home here protecting OUR borders.
We need to stop the Nafta Superhighway.
We need to insist on upholding our Constitution.
If you can’t even keep a promise to Ron Paul,
how can you be trusted to keep a promise to the American
people.
Go back to your word. You will feel better.
Do you ever enlist your friends to help you?
You may not have as many friends as Ron Paul. That would
probably bother you.
But step back - we are coming thru.
Get on the right side of the fence now.
It’s not too late.
I was a friend of Ron’s Before he decided to run for President. I am still here till the war has been won.
Ron Paul has served his district admirably, and if he wants to use his email list to solicit support for his congressional run I can’t think of any reason why he shouldn’t. Peden has indeed distorted Ron Paul’s message and his words, and anyone who suggests that he is illegally using his presidential campaign funds to fund his congressional run is guilty of slandering his good name. Ron Paul advocates freedom, peace, and prosperity. Anyone who attacks Ron Paul or slanders his good name is attempting to undermine freedom, peace and prosperity. Anyone who opposes Ron Paul is fighting to maintain the current system of corruption, fascism, violence and economic fraud. Am I a “Ron Paul fanatic”? You bet your bloody jack boots I am!
Ruffini you piece of human garbage. How does it feel to lie? How does it feel to promote everything that is wrong with this country. How does it feel to be a part of tearing up our constitution. God only knows how men like you keep your jobs, oh wait that’s not god. Get up off your knees and wipe your mouth….your a disgrace to our flag and hopefully you get what you deserve although Dr. Paul is too good of a man to wish it on you.
I received the email and only signed up for his presidential emails, so he’s using the list legally, but I have to assume going to a different fund.
Oh yes, Ron Paul certainly attacked you… I can see how vicious it was… sometimes the truth can hurt.
First, Dr. Paul’s key campaign asset is not merely an email list. The key asset is the people who support Dr. Paul’s campaign. As you might anticipate, most of us on that email list are glad to hear from Dr. Paul, welcome this solicitation, and are eager to financially support our seat in the House.
Second, what future job security are you insinuating that he needs? Dr. Paul does not participate in the congressional pension program, and that indicates to me that he is working because he wants to, not because he needs to.
I didn’t really like Ron Paul until now. He seemed so heartless and angry. It does seem you are attacking him so I did some research and now I’m voting for him because I just had the wrong perception of him.
SO THERE!
You anti Paul folks amaze me. If you put half as much effort into investigating issues as you do in running your mouth you might come out being considered more tham a moron. Do any of you know what the Council on Foreign Relations is?, Who belongs to it?, What their goal is? What they accomplished with the European Union? The Euro? Have you heard of the North American Union? the Amero?, The NAFTA Super Highway, Go do some homework and then realize that Ron Paul is the only candidate, Rep or Dem that is not a member of the CFR. All past presidents, most of congress, most all of the media, major corp CEO’s, etc, all want to see the USA, Mexico, and Canada become one entity all accomplished through trade agreements. Our dollar is now worth the samw as a Paso, and a Looney. Our borders are wide open with 20 million mexicans here to stay. With the NAU a reality our constitution will be null and void and you brilent folks will look around a say what happened?
I supported Ron Paul Presidential attempt, and after your previous post I donated money for his Congressional Campaign. But now I hope that he will loose the primaries in TX-14.
Loosing the Primaries will either have him run as independent for congress, which he most likely win (did you see what happened with Liberman in CT?) or He might run as independent for the White House - he will get only few percents, but costing McInsane the election.
You aren’t that clever as you might want to think of yourself.
Please, please do your reseach before you knock anyone
running for office on any level . I’ve done mine (for over twenty years) and Ron Paul has done his .It is important for your children’s sake ! Ron is telling you the truth and voting correctly on every issue , even if you don’t understand . How important to you is your children’s future ?
Haha. Patrick, you’re funny!
All but about $6K of Peden’s campaign cash is from himself or immediate family. That’s one indication of no support for Peden.
Dr. Paul enjoys a 70% approval rating in his district. That’s a second indication of no support for Peden.
Peden’s big claim was refunding $1M to his city redidents. That’s 30K people, so that’s about 33 bucks a person–not even enough to buy a tank of gas, and the median income in Friendswood is over $90K, so that’s really just lunch money.
Meanwhile Dr. Paul now has raised for his Congressional campaign almost $700K, which is from donors and not his own money.
I think you may have bet on the wrong horse here.
What is with you neo-cons? Viciously attack the only honest guy in Congress. All because he calls you fools out on your dangerous and stupid policies. Unbelievable.
I’m not a supporter of either of these men, but you, the author, are being very childish. What’s ironic about neocons such as yourself, is you go crazy about what real conservatives say, when the reality is that they’re much more mature and obviously much smarter than you are. As an independent, I would never cast my vote for someone like this.
Actually, if it is you he is talking about, then, technically, you did lie (unless, of course, “using his Presidential campaign’s donors’ money” is a misquote). If this isn’t a misquote, then it’s not an attack, it’s an observation. Is it a misquote?
I don’t know if your post has anything to do with it but Paul’s congressional campaign has raised close to $250K today while his “well funded” opponent is loaning himself money.
To me, it appears Peden is running the desperate campaign. Have you seen the ads he is running in Texas? They’re hillarious (almost like satire). He calls Paul a liberal and then in the next sentence, says Paul doesn’t vote for enough pork for their district. You can’t make this stuff up.
Thanks. I just gave Ron Paul $500 bucks. Dis him again and I’ll give him another $500 tomorrow you turd.
How low can you go? What have you got against a man who will go down in history as the a civil rights hero?
The lying and disingenuous Peden has praised Dr. Paul… he said:
“I have an immense amount of respect for Ron Paul. Politics has a way of forcing people to go against their core principles for political gain. That has never been the case for Ron Paul.”
Apparently it is now the case for Chris Peden..and should be the case AGAINST him.
Texans beware.
Oh and by the way, RP isn’t getting any pension for being in Congress. Not one dime, and he’s not using his presidential millions (he’s the only solvent candidate left) to fund his congressional race.
So I hope he sues you for libel for suggesting he did something criminal.
If you are to be a serious journalist, do your homework at least.
Secondary question: How many mentions of CFR and the North American Union will there be? I put the over/under at 20.
It’s to bad the American people don’t even care about their freedom any more. When someone like Ron Paul comes along and wants to protect us from an out of control
government, you would think the whole country would rally around this man.I can’t believe people vote for someone who will destroy this country!!
Karl Rove suggested that aspiring politicians read classical literature.
After reading the Ron Paul attacks, perhaps his camp ought to bone up on the concept of “methinketh doth protest too much”
You are a liar Ruffini. The worst kind!
Ha ha. Crap blog. Keep going, nothing to see here.
I guess all its fair in political funding land. Ron Paul is not lending money to himself like Peden is doing. Mr. Peden’s approach is so pathetic that his family is “donating” the money to him. Someone is obviously giving them the money, but that’s not the point. Ron Paul has so much support that he doesn’t need to run a campaign in debt, much less plead to his list for the money. Patrick Ruffini, why would your name matter? Do you think you are that important? I find your peddling despicable, and your puppy Joshua Trevino is not making things any easier for you. Please, both of you, keep your feet where they belong. In your mouth.
Sean “Hack”-barth, get a life. Text polls are based on unique identifiers. They are way more reliable than online polling. Enjoy the popcorn and keep your mouth full.
Patrick Ruffini,
I see you did not get the reaction you were expecting. Maybe people can’t type and laugh at you at the same time. Keep trying though. The more you talk about Ron Paul, the less proficient you become at defending whatever arguments you have. You may not be a bad guy, but you surely are sucking up to the wrong people.
Ruffini, you and Peden are complete and utter trash! Worthless, heartless, greedy leeches that would sell out their own mother to get a rung up. Peden will lose and you will be exposed for the political whore that you really are!
By the way…
Everybody who signs up on Ron Paul’s website as a supporter/person interested in receiving e-mails from the campaign received the e-mail today, and that list is shared with the congressional campaign. It was not a list of past campaign contributors, so you lied… again.
Ironman,
Don’t mess with Barack! He is the next President of the United States. John McCain will be humiliated and his losses will be extraordinary. His advisers are against appearing too close to President Bush already (http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/february2008/180208_b_McCain.htm). So I really hope that, as Patrick Ruffini stated, they “let McCain be McCain.” The more he relates to the Bush Administration, the more fun I will have during election day seeing him give his congratulations to Barack Obama.
CTD,
Well, if you extrapolate the number of people reading THIS shitty blog, you could get a good estimate.
I see Joshua Trevino using QED improperly. LOL! How clueless are these people!
Ironman,
Where is the money to stay in Iraq coming from? If you can answer that question effectively, then your words will have meaning.
Hey “Hack”-barth, not very mentions so far. Stick to responding to blog entries and eating popcorn. LOL!
Hey Patrick Ruffini,
Here’s what the Huffington Post is saying about you and your clan (no mention of your name of course (LOL!)):
“I’m an Independent — and I believe that the Republicans and Democrats are both complicit in our current mess. But it does really bother me that Republicans who opposed the war are under attack from a new resurgent mania of Iraq War fantasists, and that Dems in Congress failed to pull the plug on this conflict and could have.”
Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steve-clemons/fire-from-the-right-try_b_87304.html
So basically, you weren’t actually lying, just misleading people into thinking Ron Paul was using the millions he raised in his presidential bid for his Congressional campaign, which he was not doing.
And for what? To try to remove a reliable conservative with the best voting record in Congress on fiscal and Constitutional issues?
If you don’t think Ron Paul would make the best president, fine. If you disagree with him on the war, say so, and explain why. But why try to purge the party of someone who has only upheld its finest principles, and the only candidate bringing new donors and new volunteers into the party in large numbers?
Patrick Ruffini believes that when the giant holding up the earth dies, we are screwed….thanks to Pat for looking out!
Pat:
He called you a liar because you are a liar. Ethics do mater to some people in journalism, and you don’t accuse someone of a federal crime unless you can back it up.
Oh, I had a chance to look at your bio and what you are pitching (web consulting services to Republicans). I gotta say, your efforts in 2006 you brag about were simply smashing… when the Republicans lost the majority in the house. Between that and Joshuas stumbling and incoherent speech writing for Bush, that is quite an impressive team you two make… sign me up! (not)
For all your hate and vitriol, you yourself could learn something from Ron Paul… how to run a (very) successful web campaign, money talks and bullshit blogs. I realize it feels so good talking about “Paultards” and the like, but if I was a potential client, after seeing the hatred you insight among potential voters, I’d not really consider hiring you.
Then again, some groups like hate speech. Perhaps you are nitch marketing here? In any case, good luck. Please consider joining the Democratic party however. We don’t need losers like yourself in the Republican party. You lost us the 2006 congressional race, and next you will lose the presidential race. Ethics do matter to the american people and you need to join your friends the Clintons.

It is fairly obvious by Patricks and Joshua’s initial comments, that they are hoping to take advantage of the “Ron Paul effect” in which anything that mentions Ron Paul, gets thousands, if not 10’s of thousands, hits.
They would be better off talking about “Paris Hilton” then Ron Paul. They both appear to be trying to market their services to evangelical “republicans” yet only appear to be attracting traditional old right conservatives to the blog.
If I was looking for marketing services, I would not hire these guys as they just don’t have much common sense. Regardless of how I feel about Ron Paul, this crap wouldn’t get anyone elected, and this is what will trail behind them. Chris Penden is being harmed by Patricks and Joshuas whining, and I am NO Penden fan.

Hi Doug:
I just ran across Mr. Ruffins blog today in researching Chris Penden. The more I read Mr. Ruffin’s blogs, as well as his sidekick Josh’s comments, the more I think these two are Obama plants who are trying to piss away the very thing you talk about in your post, new donors and volunteers to the Republican party.
I say to Ron Paul supporters. You ARE welcome in the Republican Party. Do not pay any attention to the ramblings or childish postings of Mr. Ruffian or Josh, they bring shame to the Republican party.
Why would Paul need to use the cash from his presidential bid to “underwrite his future job security” ? It’s just an absurd premiss. What’s a few million to Ron Paul, political fundraising powerhouse extraordinaire? He could raise a million on any given day of the week. In fact, he did that yesterday. Thus, not only are you a liar Patsy, your entire foundation for thought is completely without substance.
Ethics do matter, for all the success Paul had on the internet–I would argue unintentional since it’s was more about his passionate supporters than anything his campaign did–he couldn’t turn it into electoral success. A spiffy website can create wine out of water, but if it can’t bring out the vote it’s worthless.
Paul’s internet efforts demonstrated the power of niche politics. It failed to demonstrate Presidential victory.
Sean:
I’m not sure of your point. In my county in Michigan, Ron Paul got 17% of the vote, and in one township, placed first. Quite a bit of the vote was “brought out” in my county.
Yes, sure, nationwide Paul did not win against McCain, but he did beat the majority of Republican candidates, including Rudy and Thompson. I don’t see these supporters being chased out of the Republican party by Pat or Josh.
Bottom line, more Americans identify themselves as Democrats then Republicans. People like Pat and Josh think it is best to chase away the Paul supporters from the Republican party. I happen to think that is a recipe for a loss in 2008, which in fact may be the very thing both these Dem’s are hoping for.
Ethics, part of it is Paul’s foreign policy stance. If his supporters were honest enough they wouldn’t have supported Reagan fighting the Cold War because Paul wants to bring all the troops home.
Another point has to do with the behavior of many online Paul supporters. They’re obnoxious in spamming weblog comments and taking over e-mail lists. If you oppose Paul you’re a “neocon” and love Big Government.
Finally, I think most of Paul supporters came from outside the Republican Party. That’s good except I don’t think most of them had any inclination of voting for a Republican other than Paul. The GOP will have plenty of troubles in the fall, but some (smart) people picking on a 5% candidate like Paul won’t be one of them.
It’s the MESSAGE Sean. Of course Paul won’t but neither will McCain. The Democrat backlash against Bush is just too overwhelming. Only one campaign could have drawn the cross-party voters and it certainly isn’t what the Repubs. are pushing for a platform.
It’s just sad that there are so many people who are bound and determined to remain ignorant despite the widely available verifiably documented information that would swing them away from an emotionally invested position to a more practical position derived from critical thinking.
A time may come when regret sets in for them, but by then it will be too late and the Ron Paul supporters will be there to say: “We tried to warn you, but you just laughed. Now, we would like to know if that whine compliments that entrée of crow your having to eat?”.
Ron Paul may not win the Republican nomination, but McCain is going to get crushed by Obama.
Also look for Lou Dobbs to enter the race as an independent in less than 30 days.

Sean:
I made some specific clear points, and you come back with generalities and attacks against unnamed persons. Please back up your claims with citations. How old are you?
My first presidential election was in 1980, and I voted for Ronald Reagan, and again in 1984. Ronald Reagan supported Ron Paul in his congressional run in the late 70’s and it was only when the liberals took over the Republican party (which I suspect is the wing you belong to) did Ron Paul decide not to run again.
Sure, so piss away the Ron Paul supporters. But Ronald Reagan didn’t insult the crossover voters and as a result, won the 1980 election.
BTW, speaking of poor behavior, the Romney supporters took the cake. We caught one spray painting Nazi symbols on our Ron Paul campaign signs. Pure hate.
Well I’m 54yrs old and have been a Registered Republican since 1972. I was a Republican in the south long before it was cool to be a Republican. Yellow Dog Democrats ruled. Republicans used to believe in limited government and thought war was only something the country went into if everything else failed. Eisenhower was elected to get us out of Korea. Nixon out of Vietnam. Now with the NeoCons running things, the GOP is unrecognizable. I really don’t think Goldwater or Reagan could be nominated today.
Goldwater—– I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue! …
Ronald Reagan—–Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.
George W Bush—-When people hurt Government must move
Ruffini and Josh Trevino are the epitome of what’s wrong with the GOP today. They’re Bush Republicans. NeoCon hacks.
Well said JimBob
I also find it hilarious that figures like Rudy, McCain, and Romney all use Reagan’s name like they do.
Why do Republican’s look so ridiculous from outsiders?
Because they have been led by neocons for as long as I’ve been alive.
Why does Ron Paul look so ridiculous to the “republican base”?
Because they have been following the party lines for as long as I’ve been alive.
First they laugh at you, then they ridicule you, then they attack you.
Then you win.

[…] Patrick Ruffini, one of the preeminent New Media strategists for the GOP, has been Attacked by Ron Paul - invented the Paultard Drinking Game, and courageously declared that it’s best if the consultants Let McCain be McCain. […]
[…] A post by Patrick Ruffini about Ron Paul’s congressional primary (as well as his presidential bid) includes this excerpt from an email sent by Paul: “My friend Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest (R-Maryland) was just defeated in his primary election by a neocon fraud similar to the one I face. My friend Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) is under heavy pressure as well. People like our hand-picked opponents will do anything to gain and keep power. They represent everything that is wrong with DC.“ […]
