[05.01.03] Bush Gets Results The Bush Administration has found a quantifiable dropoff in terror attacks around the world. Terrorism is now at its lowest levels since 1969:

The State Department, in its annual report on global terrorism, says the number of terror attacks declined sharply last year due to increased international cooperation and resolve. Seven countries - Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Syria, and Sudan - were again listed as state sponsors of terrorism, though Iraq may soon come off the list.

Whaddyaknow — sometimes this bombing stuff works.

I don't know how accurate those statistics are. It is too soon to see if there has been a decrease in terrorism. And even if there has been, it is way too early to say whether there is any connection between that and the war with Iraq. If anything, the Iraq war is likely to increase anti-American sentiment across the entire world (this has alread happened to a degree).

Even in Iraq, where the people are supposed to "love" us and "hate" Saddam, there has been a great deal of anti-American feelings and anger. Just earlier today, seven U.S. soldiers were injured when attacked by Iraqis.

And just a couple of days ago, the same people who are supposed to "hate" Saddam Hussein, and be happy about his removal, were wishing him Happy Birthday. And those same people who are supposed to "love" us, and be so grateful for their "liberation" now want us tried for war crimes.

A great 'victory', right?

This war was a mistake, and we may soon see more adverse consequences of our actions.

So basically: Saddam good, Bush bad, right?

The claimed success is that the number of terrorist incidents were at the lowest level in over 30 years. However, casualties (including wounded) were higher last year than in 1997, 1999, and 2000. And the number of Americans killed in terrorist incidents was higher last year than any year from 1997-2000.

Don't get me wrong, I think we're winning the war on terrorism. It just isn't showing up in the stats yet.
